The hardest thing about this project was deciding how to present the music to keep everybody happy. The user wants fast downloads and the performer wants a quality rendition of their performance. Unfortunately, the better the rendition, the larger the file and the longer the download time. So we decided to give you the choice and the ability to try out the different formats, so that you can decide which works best for you.
We started with the Digital Audio Tape (DAT) recording of the original performance. We compressed and converted these recordings to MPEG format to get pretty good audio quality in reasonably sized files.
Here's an FTP site that has MPEG players for the following computers:
Some of these files are still pretty big so we re-recorded several of the musical pieces in MIDI format. MIDI is a recording of the notes played, kind of like a player piano but with many more instruments.
Many computers and sound cards come with a MIDI player, but if you don't have one here's a site with MIDI players for Windows and the MAC.
